The Magic of Holly

When thinking of the holidays, some major symbols pop into our heads. There are, of course, certain color schemes that quickly remind us of the holidays. Other symbols such as snowflakes, pine cones, and twinkle lights are a big addition to the holiday feel. Perhaps the most impactful and yet most unnoticed addition to the holiday symbols lineup is holly. Incorporating holly into your holiday wedding decorations is the perfect way to turn a classic and elegant theme into holiday! Holly can be added subtly dozens of little ways that are discrete additions to alter the overall feel. Or, holly can be added in a bold and loud way making it the center of attention in your decorations.

These tiny red orbs have taken on the holiday appeal, and are depicted all variety of holiday decorations. They are often confused with mistletoe, no doubt due to the popularity of the mistletoe kissing tradition. However, the pointed leaves and bright red berries are unique to the holly plant (whereas mistletoe has oblong smooth leaves and sometimes white berries). Replicating these bright red orbs in a variety of ways through your decorations is a simple way to bring in the holidays while keeping to a neutral and unobtrusive winter theme. This is ideal for weddings where elegance is generally the desired appeal.

Cranberries are a fabulous and effective way to remind guests of holly without needing to procure a large amount of this difficult yet beautiful plant. Adding fresh cranberries to the bottom of floral or candle vases bring a delightful holiday red coloring into your decorations in a subtle way. The cranberries remind us of holly because of the season and setting, and most who look at the creation will not even realize they are gazing upon a popular fruit as opposed to a traditional holiday berry.

Glass ornaments are wonderful for adding a bit red color in a way that mimics holly. Tie the clasps of three small glass ornaments (frosted, sparkling, or clear) together with some florist wire and insert into wreaths and floral arrangements bulb-side out. Larger ornaments can be laid on tables or used in other decorations as well. Even the larger red bulbs bring memories of the tiny holly berries they are meant to imitate.

Cranberry Red Cocktails

Specialty drinks are an exciting way to spice up any event, weddings included! In addition to that glass of champagne that is passed around to each guest over the age of 21, have a signature cocktail that is distributed to each guest during your cocktail hour. There are a wide variety of liquors that feature cranberry juice as a main ingredient that bring out a beautiful and brilliant color to enhance the natural splendor of a wedding or formal event. Wedding Invitation Checklist

When planning a wedding, there are a lot of pieces of information that need to be given to each of your guests. To do this, you will want to compile a list of the information for your specific event first, and then proceed with arranging it. Keep in mind that spacing is often limited, especially considering the amount of information that must be extended to guests for such an important occasion. It is customary to begin invitations with a cordial greeting such as "Please join us" or "You are cordially invited to." In the case of wedding invitations, the host names are incorporated into the greeting instead (ex. "Please join Mr. & Mrs. Smith").
