As with every year, I hung my new 2010 calendar and double-checked on when some important dates would fall this year. You might be as surprised as I was to see that Mardi Gras is early this year on February 16th. That gives just over a month to plan your annual Fat Tuesday celebration! With any party, the best place to start is the guest list. Once you’ve got an idea how many guests you’ll be inviting, be sure to place an order for your invitations. Manufacturers are selling out quickly, so be sure to order as early as you can to get that perfect design!
The secret to a great Mardi Gras party is all in the theme. Purple, green, and gold are the official Mardi Gras colors. Cocktails, confetti, King’s cake, and of course beads, beads, beads are a must. Not to mention the costume masks! You could go all out, and have your guests come dressed in theme. Or, you could provide colorful handheld masks to each guest to keep the festive spirit high. Think masquerade and plan an extravagant ball, or take a completely chill route and have guests come casual with plenty of plastic beaded necklaces to hand out. Don’t forget to plan games and crown a Mardi Gras Queen and King!
